food photography

It's been a bbq fest in our neck of the woods what with the 3-day memorial day weekend. It's no surprise that Instagram and Facebook has been teeming with photos of, you guessed it, FOOD! Everyone seems to be documenting and taking photos of what they're eating. I don't know when this whole photography revolution started, do you? Well, that's not to say I'm not guilty. I'm sure we all are. I just try not to do it when we're out in public because I think it's rude (and silly) but that's just my personal rule. I'm not one to judge.

Ever wonder how we look like doing it? Hilarious! No wonder there's a site dedicated to documenting people taking photos of food!

Happy eating, Bunnies!

my week in photos

I still can't figure out why the days go by so fast and why I can't seem to find the time to sit down and write something. I can't even remember everything that has happened in the last couple of days. Thank goodness for the camera, I am able to document my life in photos. Here are some pics I posted on Instagram, in case you are interested.

Candy necklace from one of the moms in my parenting class. Cute and inexpensive idea for a party giveaway, right?
Appreciation token from my parenting class. Have you ever thought about what kind of mom you want to be? I aspire to be strong, resilient, optimistic, and wise.
One of his current favorite things to do: play grocery grocery.
My favorite color block combination: yellow and blue.

That's what happens when I'm not looking.
I've literally worn out my favorite pair of jeans. Good thing shabby is the new chic. No need to throw it away just yet.
Thank you tokens for Bud's teachers. I love wrapping presents. I find it very therapeutic.

have a colorful weekend

It's graduation weekend in our household. I still can't believe the school year is over! That's nine months that just whizzed by. Before I know it, I will be sending the little guy off to college then he'll get married and start a family. Gaaah... I'm getting ahead of myself again. Sorry, graduations just tug at my emotional chords and makes me feel very sentimental.

Anyway, when we asked Bud where he wanted to celebrate his graduation, without thinking twice he answered Ihop. So that's where we're taking him today to have a pancake party. What are you plans this weekend? Here are some ideas you might like to try.

Color block and spread some happiness.
Claim your space in the bedroom and create a chic vignette on your bedside table.

summer break

No more classes. No more books. No more teachers. It's officially summer break in our neck of the woods! I'm already looking forward to trips to the splash pad, swimming in the lake, picnic lunches under the trees, free concerts at the park, long runs with the jogging stroller and barbecue dinners.

What are you looking forward to in the next couple of weeks?

happy mother's day weekend

It's Mother's Day weekend! What are your plans? I'm really excited to spend Saturday afternoon with my girlfriends. We're going to have a picnic by the lake. There's a host of other things I would love to do with the family this weekend and here are some of them. Maybe you can try them too.

Get dolled up and eat ice cream while taking a stroll.

tea-riffic mother's day DIY

With Mother's Day just around the corner, I decided to make tokens for some friends and Bud's teachers. Nothing elaborate. Just a simple yet thoughtful teacup card to let them know they are appreciated. Isn't that what really matters?

If you want to try making some for your friends or co-workers, here's what you'll need:
1. sheets of printed card stock or scrap booking paper 2. tea-cup template 3. pencil 4. glue 5. cutter 6. string 7. scissors
Step#1 Fold your paper in half. Using the template, draw the teacup at the top of the paper with the cup handle touching the fold.  If you are using a 12in x 12in sheet of paper, you can make 3 teacups with one sheet.

Step #2 With a cutter, cut out the teacups. Glue the sides and leave the top open so you have a pocket for the tea bags.

Step #3 Using your extra paper, cut out small pieces for your gift tag. Tie the tag around your teacup handle with a string.
Happy DIY-ing, Bunnies!

note to self

Everyday we have children to discipline, deadlines to meet, bills to pay and houses to keep in order. At the end of each day it's always nice to have a few minutes of laughs with our loved ones. Say it out loud, "you make me happy"! Wouldn't that be wonderful to hear?

Spinach Bacon Egg and Cheese Toast Cups

Last week I came across this picture and was inspired to do a little experimenting in the kitchen. The result - Spinach, Bacon, Egg and Cheese Toast Cups. They were so easy to prepare and were perfect for eating outdoors that I decided to surprise the little guy with a picnic lunch at the park that day. Even the Mister was pleased with the outcome.

Ingredients:
handful of spinach
6 strips of bacon
2 slices of american cheese (chopped)
3 eggs
1 tbs of butter
6 slices of wheat bread

Cut the bacon into small pieces and fry until crisp. Remove from pan and set aside. Discard the bacon fat. (note: you can also opt to use the bacon fat to saute the spinach if you wish) Saute the spinach in the same pan with some olive oil until semi wilted. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs then add the spinach, bacon and cheese.

Preheat your oven to 375. Slice off the crust from your bread. Melt your butter. With a brush, lightly butter the muffin cups and press a slice of bread into each muffin cup. Make sure the bread comes up to the edge of the cup. Brush the remainder of the butter onto your bread cups. Pour the egg mixture into the bread cups and bake for 20-25 minutes, uncovered.

happy weekend

I'm so glad it's the weekend. The past few days has just been unusually exhausting for me. The Mister started in his new job this week so we're adjusting to an earlier morning routine. Then for some reason, the little guy decided he doesn't need midday naps anymore which makes juggling chores and playtime a tad more challenging. But enough of the complaints. This weekend I'm determined to get some much needed exercise and hopefully some sleep as well.

What about you? If you're in the mood, here are some things you could try to do this weekend.

Skip Jamba Juice this morning and make this refreshing Honeydew Green Tea cooler at home instead.

Happy Weekend, Bunnies!

the week in photos

I just recently discovered Instagram and I am hooked! It's a really great way to stay connected with family and friends through photos. Let me share with you some snaps from our week.

I made pancakes from scratch! Will share the recipe in another post.
The little guy loves his pancakes. He said they were soft like pillows.
We spent an afternoon at the Children's Museum.
Parade time! We have been recounting and retelling the story a million times.
Parade essentials - noise makers.
When you only have 2 minutes to get dressed - khakis, stripes and sneakers.
Fresh batch of books from the library.
Wore this to Bud's mom and me class and came home splattered with paint.
I feel presents become even more memorable when they are wrapped with a little more thought.

See you on Instagram!

the best and hardest job in the world

I was in the business of communicating to mothers for so many years and all the advertising campaigns I've made were always just work to me. I never really appreciated the value of a truly insightful and heartwarming TV commercial until I became a mother myself. Boy was I surprised when I started tearing up at every Mother's Day ad when I had Bud. Since then there has been no turning back. Whenever I see a TV commercial with a mother and children I feel like it's talking to me. You name it, toilet paper, paper towels, mini vans, breakfast cereals, soap, shampoo!

Here's one commercial that has been very popular on facebook lately and has really pulled on my heartstrings specially since I've made a career out of being the best mom I could be.

To the hardest and most fulfilling job in the world! Cheers, Bunnies!

Are you already looking forward to the weekend? Who isn't? For me it's the two days in the week when I can be spontaneous. It's also a good time to try something different, learn something new. With that said, here are some simple ideas to brighten up our weekend.

Whip up a Strawberry Pineapple Crumble for the family and eat it for breakfast.
