I love this idea of repurposing duplo blocks into letter blocks! I think for now what I'll do is to label the blocks by its color to help the little guy learn how to read. He can definitely identify the colors but it would be a good exercise to associate the word with the color.

It's already the second week of March and there is still snow outside. Despite the the not-so-ideal conditions, life goes on. I do my best to provide Bud with fun and enriching activities and Bud has likewise entertained me thoroughly.

A typical day for us would start with a hearty breakfast followed by a trip to an indoor playground. Wednesdays are extra special because he gets to see his classmates in school. It's an hour and a half in the week when he gets to be independent and I get to chat uninterrupted with other moms.


As soon as we get back from our morning activities, we have lunch then I put him down for a 2-3 hour nap, depending on how exhausted he is.

Afternoons are spent monkeying around the house, literally. He loves wearing his monkey costume from last Halloween. Here he's a monkey chef. Notice how he has a better looking cardboard kitchen? This is version 2.0, more polished and sturdy. We also got him some kiddie cooking pans from Ikea to complete the set.


To help Bud develop his gross motor skills, we do a lot of strengthening activities during the week. One of them is yoga. Just the mere mention of yoga and he'll immediately do a downward dog. Look at him trying to do a cobra pose, a bow pose and a dead bug pose.


We try to squeeze in some arts and crafts if we have time. Here's one of our latest projects inspired by paper leaves. I have a habit of keeping all sorts of used wrapping paper and magazines which came in handy for this project (and also explains the wrinkled paper).


Bud's cheerful personality never fails to brighten up even the most dreary of winter days. I always thank God for giving me such an amazing little boy!

Yesterday Bud decided he didn't need his mid-day nap so the 2-hour break I was looking forward to the whole morning never came and instead turned into this and more.....

We made a snowman with some glue, cotton and a little imagination.

We tried out this recipe for homemade playdough. Guess what we made? A little playdough snowman , haha!
When arts and crafts finally lost their novelty, he monkeyed around the house, literally.
What do you do with a toddler who doesn't want to sleep? I need your ideas, please.

DIY inspirations

I've been very busy ... reading blogs and getting ideas for craft activities Bud and I could do together, haha!

Last week was paper plate art week. We made a fish bowl (with cutout fish, of course), an elephant and a lion. They were very crude (so I didn't bother to take photos) but Bud enjoyed playing with them nonetheless. And mind you, he could identify the animals even if they were not professionally done.

This morning I stumbled across this blog where I got my inspiration to make home-made finger paints for Buddy. The recipe I used was:

2 cups white flour
2 cups cold water
food coloring

Put water into a large bowl. Slowly add the flour, while the children are stirring. Once it's all mixed together, divide into smaller bowls and add food coloring.

The finger paint idea was amazing! It was so fun yet very easy to do. I wasn't able to take photos with my hands all messy from the paint mixture. Will try to take some shots when we do our painting session again tomorrow.

It was funny how Bud was more curious with the new sensation and texture in his hands. He was dipping his hands in the paint then he would open and close them. Maybe tomorrow he will be more comfortable with the idea of painting with his fingers.
